Quiet

~ By  Susan Cain  2012  Non-Fiction  270 pgs ~

A BOOK BLESSING  -For Reading

M ay we attend closely with a view to hear, more as the forest knows, shouting only in deepest wind.  May we hold each word, careful and steady, as the gardner planting seed 'pon the ground so light.  May we understand the strength silence holds, and take notice the quiet which begins each day, bold and bright shine in the East, stretching out to Western sky.  May we find that state of rest, so sweetly named and crowned:  Quiet.

WHATS IN THE BINDING? -Book In Summary

Walking into the forest still, history, insight, Quiet will...

Quiet is a book about speaking and a book about silence.  About extroverts and introverts.  The relationship between the two, sometimes harmonious, sometimes heartbreaking.  It sails through the histories of who we have become as a culture and how we got here.  In the sense of ideas like personality, introvert, extrovert, first impressions, charisma and solitude.  Quiet speaks to all.

PAGE LEAFING -Thoughts & Impressions

Quiet is a book for those who live in the city but yearn for the solitude of the forest.  Or for those who ache to hide amongst a castle of stacked books, in the quietest corner of the library. It is also however a book for the salesman,  manager, or popular charismatic, to  receive a new portal of understanding the beauty offered by the great differences in people.  May we always enter into greater balance and insight.

here was a moment last week when I commented to a friend "I am 100 pages into Quiet". As soon as I looked at that sentence I felt refreshed and calmed.  If you read the book, you will also inevitably find your self "100 pages into Quiet", I hope perhaps you will feel the same. Reading Quiet, may take you to new lands.  I had already viewed Susan Cain's excellent TED talk, but her book took it much deeper.  Reaching through history, reflecting upon scientific studies, and spinning to the Eastern parts of the globe, with interview, experience & insight.  I found myself taking new breaths of life.  Introvert or extrovert, this will help to uncover deeper and greater truth for all, to know, share and understand.

TAKE FIVE  -Book Samples

"In 1790 , only 3 percent of Americans lived in cities; in 1840, only 8 percent did; by 1920, more than a third of the country were urbanites."
"The word personality didn't exist in English until the 18th century, and the idea of 'having a good personality' was not widespread until the 20th."
"High reactive children pay what one psychologist calls 'alert attention' to people and things.  They literally use more eye movements than others to compare choices before making a decision."
"Persistence isn't very glamorous."
"High reactive introverts sweat more; low reactive extroverts sweat less.  Their skin is literally 'thicker' more impervious to stimuli, cooler to the touch...The lower-reactive you are, the cooler your skin, the cooler you are. "
